Tropical North Queensland has a starring role in a new South Korean reality television series and Irish star Ronan Keating will be bringing his family to Port Douglas to showcase the destination through his social media channels as part of our international marketing.
The Bucket List Travel to Australia is a new show that will follow five famous South Korean celebrities as they undertake a journey of discovery to uncover Queensland’s best experiences ahead of summer. TTNQ has partnered with Tourism Australia, Tourism and Events Queensland, Brisbane Economic Development Agency, and Destination Gold Coast on this project promoting Queensland to an international audience.
Soon after Ronan Keating will be in Port Douglas holidaying with his family before playing in the Survivor Golf Grand Finale at the Mirage Country Club on December 4.
TTNQ will host Ronan, his wife Storm and their young children Cooper and Coco who will experience the Great Barrier Reef, the world’s oldest rainforest and Indigenous culture during their visit.
Ronan hosts a popular breakfast show on Magic Radio and British television chat show, The One Show, and has an extensive social media following. He and Storm will post daily stories about their Tropical North Queensland experiences on their social accounts, which together reach 1.3 million people.
This investment in international celebrities comes on the back of recent segments on Channel 10’s prime-time show, The Living Room, after TTNQ hosted Dr Chris Brown in region to experience Cairns Canyoning and Walkabout Cultural Adventures earlier this year.
Last year we invested in support for The Real Housewives of Melbourne to shoot in Cairns and Port Douglas which was televised to 1.5 million viewers, shared to 1.3 million social media followers and will feature on programming overseas. In February 2021 the TNQ episodes of The Amazing Race were televised with more than half a million viewers for each episode.
Over the past few weeks the destination has benefitted from the Queensland Government’s investment in the movie industry with Wizards! being shot in the Daintree and Cairns. The arrival of stars Pete Davidson and Orlando Bloom, and Orlando’s partner Katy Perry has received incredible money-can’t-buy international publicity for Tropical North Queensland.
While celebrities are a great boost for destination marketing, they are only a small component of the public relations and campaign activity work underway to promote the region in Australia and overseas. We have just wrapped up our Winter, Eco-Lux and Drive TNQ campaigns on the back of a very successful domestic winter season and are planning for spring activity. Our team’s international trade activity is particularly busy this month with a delegation returning from Japan and an in-market trip to North America.
