CityLife Magazine Publisher’s Note Winter 2025
Since our last edition, we’ve had a Federal Election and a new Federal Member for Leichhardt voted in. It’s the end of an era and the ushering in of a new one. I’d like to congratulate the newly elected Member for Leichhardt, Matt Smith MP, on your win at the recent Federal Election.
After 26 years at the helm, The Hon Warren Entsch MP has decided to hang up his political boots. While many are sad to see him retire, he’s made a positive impact on Far North Queensland, Australia and beyond, through many significant projects he spearheaded during his time in the seat. I’d be here all day listing them, but it would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the immense effort he put into fighting for the North. Politics is tough – full of personal sacrifice and a level of performance few are willing to do. There are people across the political spectrum who are quick to knock our elected representatives, regardless of their stripes. But few are willing to throw their hat in the ring and fight for what our community deserves. For those who do, they have my respect – and for those who do it for 26 years, never voted out, they have my deepest admiration. Thank you, Warren for all you’ve done – and continue to do – for our community in retirement.
Matt Smith – you have big shoes to fill! But I have full faith that with the support of your party, the people you represent, and the former Member on speed dial, you’ll do just fine. Welcome to the seat of Leichhardt – let’s hit the ground running!
And congratulations to the returning Member for Kennedy, The Hon Bob Katter MP, who’s represented his seat for 32 years and been in politics for 51 years! An incredible contribution.
It’s the End Of Financial Year – hard to believe we’re halfway through already … but here we are! Since our last edition, we hosted the CityLife Annual Business Retreat and heard from extraordinary speakers from across the nation and region. It was full of education, inspiration, connection and big picture thinking. It was the CityLife Events Team’s pleasure to host this event again for the FNQ business community.
