Welcome to our Summer edition of KidsLife Magazine!
With the year racing toward Christmas and school holidays already underway for many, this is always such a special time for families, longer days, plenty of play, and the chance to truly reconnect. And as we head into the festive season, we’re thrilled to bring you an edition filled with insight, warmth, and important conversations for parents, carers, and kids of all ages.
Our cover story dives deep into one of the most significant shifts to family life in recent years: Australia’s Social Media Ban, set to commence this December for children under the age of 16. For many, it’s been a long time coming. We’ve worked tirelessly, and loudly to advocate for tighter protections for young people online by throwing our support behind the “36 months” and NewsCorp’s “Let Them Be Kids” campaigns, and we’re genuinely excited to see the federal government finally take action.
In this feature, we break down what the ban actually means, why it’s happening, who championed the push behind it, and which platforms will be restricted. For too long, social media has operated without the same standards required of every other media outlet. Television, film, radio and print all follow strict guidelines to safeguard children – yet social media, now undeniably mainstream, has remained the exception. We believe that ensuring safer digital spaces for kids is not only fair, but essential, and this move is a milestone worth celebrating.
Alongside this landmark feature, we’re delighted to share thoughtful contributions from some of Australia’s most trusted parenting voices.
