YAPS Animal Refuge rescue abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats in Cairns area, Far North Queensland. Our refuge animals stay with us and are lovingly cared for until their ‘forever families’ come along to adopt them. Some end up living out their days with us as permanent guests.

YAPS also provide a dog and cattery boarding service – the biggest and best in the region!

All our facilities run so successfully because of the huge hearts and hard work of our dedicated staff, volunteers, supporters and members.

BIN: 0000292198263

About: Shelby is a real sweetheart and loves a cuddle but sadly it seems that she has not had much of a social life as she is unsure of many things other dogs take in their stride.
Car rides seemed to be new to her and she was a bit apprehensive at first but gradually became a bit more comfortable with the ride.
Other dogs, she seems unsure of how to react around them, “should I be on guard or do they want to play with me… not real sure what this playing is all about!!
She will need someone who will let her experience the world and encourage her along the way to make her feel safe and secure.
Shelby will also need a high timber or colour bond fence to keep her safely confined when at home.

About: Mutley is the newest guy into Yaps, he was a rescue from the local pound, so at this stage we do not know much about him. One thing we were told that he needs a home with no small children as he likes play a bit rough but with a bit of training and love we are sure this boy will be a loyal and loving companion to the right family.

About: About: This girl has energy plus and at times a mind of her own.
She is going to need an owner who is prepared to put time into training her and providing her with lots of exercise/stimulation. Olivia will need love but guidance with a strong owner so that she knows what is expected of her.
With this bit of effort you will have yourself one loyal friend and companion.

Flo is not good with small dogs or cats… she is a high energy girl who gets on with some male dogs who she can “boss” around!!!

About: A word about Quinton from his foster carer

Quinton has been a part of my life as my foster dog now for about 4 months. My own dog Milo and I love him to bits. My dog Milo who can be a little protective of me and his space has taken so well to Quinton right from word go. He never rouses on him and accepts him completely as his bestie. Quinton will always go where Milo is, lie where he is and just loves to hang out with him. He is such a fun and totally loving dog. He has had a bad start in life so can be a little anxious with new people but once he has adapted to a new environment and a new family he will be the most loyal dog. He does not have a bad bone in his body. He is such a fun dog. High energy so does need plenty of runs especially first thing in the morning then he will be settled for the rest of the day. A doggie playmate would be ideal and every dog I have seen him with seem to like him. he has not experienced children really with me but I feel certain he will be fine and love their attention if they are kind to him and give him time to adjust.

He is a smart dog and has learnt good doggie manners with just a little training. He makes me laugh all the time and is the most affectionate and smoochy dog I have ever looked after.
I wish for this beautiful boy a kind and loving home where his needs will be met and he can express his full potential as a loving and confident dog. You will enjoy the sense of joy and fun that he exudes. He will repay your kindness with love +++
